Initiation cells of prostate carcinogenesis in FG/Tag transgenic mice are a subset of p63+ basal epithelial cells. Shown is immunostaining for p63 (dark brown nuclear stain) in a prostate duct before the development of prostate cancer. Section was counterstained with hematoxylin and the image acquired at ×400 magnification. A subset of these non-neoplastic p63+ cells also coexpress SV40 T antigen (not shown).
