MCF-7 cells were transfected with the GFP-coupled minimal sequence of heregulin α, which were defined to be sufficient for nuclear import and subnuclear localization of heregulins in dot-like structures. Results demonstrate that nuclear dot formation by heregulin is independent of the EGF-like domain shown to be necessary for receptor binding and activation and may reflect unknown mechanisms of action of heregulin within the nucleus independent of the ErbB receptor system.
