Partially transformed crypts in the colon of ITFTag transgenic mice. Dysplastic crypts
are apparent (center of figure) that contain normal cells lacking Tag expression (blue
nuclei ) together with a population of spatially disorganized, Tag-expressing cells detected
by immunohistochemistry (brown-staining nuclei ). This represents the earliest detectable
step in tumorigenesis in this mouse model of colonic carcinoma. For details, see the article
