Editor's Note

Editor's Note

Michael B. Kastan, Editor-in-Chief

As we look forward to another year of steady growth and progress for Molecular Cancer Research, the importance of the steadfast dedication and commitment of our Senior Editors continues to increase. These hardworking scientists provide consistent guidance and support to both the contributors and reviewers of the journal and the success of the journal is directly dependent on them. I would like to use this opportunity to express my deep gratitude to them for their hard and effective work all year long. It is with regret that we take note that Dr. Scott Kaufmann, an extremely diligent and effective Senior Editor for the past few years, will be stepping down from this position to spend more time focusing on his many other responsibilities. Scott has brought intelligence and energy to the job of Senior Editor. With his excellent editorial skills and extensive knowledge of scientific literature and techniques, he has played a major role in enhancing the quality of MCR papers on the topics of cell death and determinants of chemosensitivity.

We are fortunate that Douglas Green has accepted an invitation to serve as Senior Editor beginning this month. Dr. Green is an immunologist with interests in the central mechanisms of apoptosis in cancer and the immune system. He brings a long history of creative and productive science to the position and will contribute significantly to an already august group.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to the readers of and contributors to our journal. We have made great strides in the past year: Submissions to the journal have more than doubled, and more important, the number of excellent papers that we have had the privilege to publish has increased substantially as well. Your interest in the journal has been the stimulus for us to continue growing and improving. We read with interest the cogent comments many of you have offered. We have already implemented your suggestion that we publish more reviews. With the appointment of Amato Giaccia as Deputy Editor for Reviews, we have seen measurable growth in that area. You can be assured that your comments are welcomed and considered in our future plans for MCR.

Please accept my best wishes for a healthy, productive, and successful new year.
