Molecular Cancer Research (MCR) has now been in existence for a full year since its conversion from Cell Growth & Differentiation. It has been an outstanding first year for the Journal. The number and quality of submissions are up, allowing us to maintain the selectivity that will assure excellence. Our objective has been to serve as a forum for research on molecular and cellular aspects of cancer investigation. To that end, we developed sections in the Journal to subdivide this large area into major areas of interest ranging from angiogenesis to cancer genes to animal models. It is our hope that scientists working in these areas will come to view MCR as both a resource for their field and an outlet in which a critical mass of their papers will be published.
In our continuing efforts to bring articles of interest and value to our readers, MCR begins with this issue to present review articles on timely topics, either singly or in appropriate groups. Our first series of articles presents a comprehensive discussion on a variety of topics related to the MDM2 oncogene. Part I, which appears in the current issue, covers subjects related to the molecular and cellular biology of MDM2. Those appearing next month in Part II will provide insights about MDM2 that are relevant to cancer diagnosis, prognosis, or treatment. I am grateful to Helge Taubert for his efforts in assembling this excellent group of papers.
We anticipate that these reviews will be of great interest to our readers and hope that they represent only the first of many such reviews to be published in the Journal. Members of the Journal's Editorial Board, especially Nancy Hynes, Lorraine Gudas, and Khandan Keyomarsi, will be soliciting reviews in areas of interest, and we encourage inquiries from interested readers to MCR staff or editors about the suitability of submissions.
Our readers have played an important role in making the first year of publication of this Journal such a success, and I hope that you will continue to find that the Journal occupies an important niche in the world of cancer investigations. Your comments on the work appearing in these pages are always welcome, and we promise to give all of them serious consideration, including publication if warranted.
